Zippers

Iron or finger-press each of the four pieces in half, right-sides together.

Lay the zippers into the tabs so the ends of the zippers are touching the crease of the tabs.

Ensure the short tabs are on the long zipper and the long tabs are on the short zipper.

Sew across the tabs and zipper about 1/4" in from the end of the zipper.

Fold all tabs outward so the right-sides are visible.

Iron or finger-press flat.

Front

Iron the interfacing onto the outer fabric.

If you want to add iron-on vinyl, do it NOW!

Stack and clip or pin together:
- Bottom front outside (4.5") right-side up
- Short zipper (7") down, opening on the left
- Bottom front inside (4.5") right-side down

Sew across the top along the zipper using the zipper foot and any thread.

Iron or finger press open.

Stack and clip or pin together:
- Top front outside (2.25") right-side up
- Short zipper (7") down, opening on the right
- Top front inside (5.25") right-side down

Sew across the top along the zipper using the zipper foot and any thread.

Iron or finger press open.

Top-stitch the bottom segment using the regular foot and top-stitching thread.

Both bottom pieces should be pulled away from the zipper.

Top-stitch the top segment using the regular foot and top-stitching thread.

The outside piece should be pulled away from the zipper and the inside should lie against the bottom pieces.

Trim the bottom to 6.5" total height.

Cut 1" squares into the bottom two corners.

Back

Stack and clip or pin together:
- Back outside (6.5") right-side up
- Long zipper (8.5") down, opening on the right
- Back inside (6.5") right-side down

Sew across the top along the zipper using the zipper foot and any thread.

Iron or finger press open.

Assembly

Stack and clip or pin together:
- Front outside (with pocket) right-side up
- Long zipper (8.5") down, opening on the left
- Back inside (6.5") right-side down

Sew across the top along the zipper using the zipper foot and any thread.

Iron or finger press open.

Top-stitch the bottom and top segments using the regular foot and top-stitching thread.

All pieces should be pulled away from the zipper.

Cut 1" squares into the bottom two corners of the back.

Cut 1" squares into the bottom corners of the front where the other squares already exist.

Open the big zipper

Clip or pin the inside pieces together.

Clip or pin the outside pieces together.

Sew all four edges. Leave the 1" squares open. Leave a ~3.5" space open on the outside fabric (right side of picture) to allow space to turn it all right side out when finished.

NOTE: Make sure the zipper tabs fold toward the inside pieces.

Align the seams of the corner squares. Trim if they don't align properly.

Sew the corner squares shut.

Turn the pouch right side out.

Sew the gap in the inside fabric shut.

Push the inside fabric back into the pouch.

Pop out the corners of the big zipper so they do not curve down into the pouch.

Done!

Tips:

If you're a perfectionist, cut the zipper tabs longer. You can always trim them later.

The front pocket is ideal for a cleaning cloth. Use slippery fabric for the inside so the cloth doesn't rub into the fabric.

The zipper size used here is #5.

Use dark colors on the inside so pencil marks are not visible.
